Vitebsk school to be named after Marshal Ivan Bagramyan

Vitebsk secondary school No.46 will be named after Marshal Ivan Bagramyan, two-time Hero of the Soviet Union, Commander of the First Baltic Front which liberated Belarus from the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War, Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Council of Deputies Vladimir Terentiev told journalists following a meeting of the regional organizing committee for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Belarus' liberation, BelTA has learned.

The Vitebsk Oblast Council of Deputies is cooperating with the Armenian Embassy in Belarus and the Foundation for Development and Support of Armenological Studies "Aniv" to name the school after Marshal Ivan Bagramyan. “We have invited the marshal’s grandchildren to the event. We are also considering opening an exhibition and later a museum of Ivan Bagramyan in the school,” Vladimir Terentiev said.

In May 2018, a bust of Ivan Bagramyan was installed in the town of Gorodok.

Participants of the session discussed the organization of the events in Vitebsk Oblast to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation and plans to support veterans.

As of early May, 820 veterans of the Great Patriotic War and 3,837 people affected by the war lived in Vitebsk Oblast. There are 1,488 military grave sites in Vitebsk Oblast.
