The exhibition, timed to coincide with the Day of the Orthodox Book, was opened in the Vitebsk Regional Library

The Belarusian Orthodox Church traditionally celebrates the Day of the Orthodox Book on March 14. Its celebration not only draws attention to it, but also indicates the great importance of spiritual literature in the moral education of people.

Until March 20, 14 rare editions of religious content are presented for review in the department of rare books of the regional library. Among them are the Book of Hours of 1875, a facsimile of a handwritten monument of the XII century - the Polotsk Gospel, one of the Orthodox shrines of Belarus - the Slutsk Gospel of the XVI century, other folios and miniatures. All of them are collected in the exposition "Spiritual Books of Divine Wisdom", which allows you to learn more about the history of Orthodox book culture in the Belarusian lands, as well as touch the unique samples preserved by time.

Note. For Belarus, the celebration of the Day of the Orthodox Book this year is associated with an anniversary date - the 500th anniversary of the publication of "The Apostle" by Polotsk resident Francisk Skaryna. This is the last known printed book of the Belarusian first printer, published in 1525.

A number of Orthodox publishing houses are now operating in Belarus, among them in our region is the publishing house of the Spaso-Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk.
