Energy efficiency, creativity, gamification: Belarus launches 20th Energy Marathon

The Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus has announced the 20th national Energy Marathon competition for the 2026/27 academic year, BelTA learned from the department.

The competition aims to foster an active social attitude among children and young people toward the rational use of energy resources and environmental responsibility, promote the importance of energy saving and energy efficiency, and identify and share effective practices in organizing energy-saving activities at educational institutions.

“The importance of the competition is hard to overestimate. More than 3,500 students from over 500 state educational institutions (including preschool, general secondary, vocational and technical, and supplementary education institutions) take part in it every year,” the department said.

The competition features the following categories: Project of practical measures for energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy; Cultural and entertainment event promoting the efficient and rational use of energy resources; Artwork promoting the efficient and rational use of energy resources, including the subcategories Video and Leaflet, poster, drawing; Energy-saving education and awareness-building system at an educational institution; Best teacher organizing activities to foster a culture of resource and energy saving among students; and Gamification in energy saving, including the subcategories Educational game, Board game and Computer game.

The key objectives of the Energy Marathon are to promote energy-saving methods; encourage research and creative activities by students and teachers in the field of energy saving; stimulate creative energy-saving initiatives at educational institutions; develop educational methods in energy saving, energy efficiency and environmental protection; develop practical measures to save energy resources; improve the efficiency of energy use in everyday life; and raise public awareness of energy efficiency and environmental issues.

The qualifying stage of the competition will take place in the oblasts and Minsk from October 2026 to January 2027. The final stage of the 20th national Energy Marathon competition will be held in Grodno in March 2027.
