EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
The Vitebsk Regional Council of Veterans, as part of the events for the current year to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders, intends to hold 16 open chess blitz tournaments and matches, dedicating them to the Heroes of the Soviet Union, defenders of the Fatherland, and other famous personalities of the Vitebsk region. Remembering and honoring outstanding fellow countrymen, being proud of them, and instilling in children and youth the desire to be worthy of them is the main direction of our work.
Last Saturday, the 106th Vitebsk open chess personal-team tempo tournament was held at the chess club of the State Sports Complex "Vitebsk", which for the third time was dedicated to our legendary fellow countryman, a native of the Beshenkovichi district, Hero of the Soviet Union Lev Mikhailovich Dovator. The first tournament for the coming Old New Year was organized by veterans together with the State Sports Society “Vitebsk” on the basis of its chess club. Eight teams took part in it, and a total of 48 chess players from Vitebsk, Minsk, Orsha, Beshenkovichi, Postavy, Shumilinsky districts and the only representative from Sri Lanka.
