In the regional oncology dispensary, they discussed with veterans the methods of prevention and methods of early diagnosis of cancer.
This was the topic of the "round table" held in the health care institution on the initiative of the chairman of the Council of Elderly Citizens at the Regional Executive Committee Mikhail Luzgin. Representatives of the city public association "Golden Age" took part in it.
Attention to the problem is not accidental. The number of malignant neoplasms detected in the region over the past year exceeded 6 thousand, and at the same time, every sixth case of cancer was neglected. According to the World Health Organization, about one in five people will develop some kind of cancer during their lifetime, and age is one of the risk factors in this case.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to completely protect yourself from cancer, but you can significantly reduce the risk of the disease. What do you need to do for this?
Avoid smoking and inhaling tobacco smoke, which can cause not only lung cancer, but also cancer of the larynx, prostate, pancreas, kidneys, bladder and other organs. Regularly undergo medical examinations. Get vaccinated. Vaccinations against hepatitis, human papillomavirus and other diseases significantly reduce the risk of certain types of cancer.
Take care of a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. A balanced diet with an abundance of vegetables and fruits, sleep and rest regimen, regular and feasible physical activity will help to significantly increase immunity and avoid many diseases, including cancer.
Separately, during the round table, the topic of medical examination was heard. People over 40 years old need to take a general blood and urine test, a biochemical blood test, a blood glucose test, do an ECG and fluorography, and measure intraocular pressure. Between the ages of 40 and 60, HPV testing should be done once every five years. Women 49-58 years old need to undergo a mammogram once every three years. All men aged 50-65 years should have a PSA blood test once every two years. Additional examinations are prescribed by a specialist doctor based on the results of the examination.
All this is important for the early detection of malignant neoplasms, because medical practice has proven that most oncological diseases are successfully cured if detected in the early stages.
The roundtable discussion was useful. The veterans took the information seriously, having understood the main thing - that health, first of all, depends on the person himself, his correct image and cancer awareness.
