Belarus and Mongolia are set to prepare a roadmap for cooperation in the environmental sector through 2029, the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection told BelTA following a meeting between Belarusian Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Maksim Lysenko and Mongolia’s Ambassador to Belarus Gunaajav Baigalmaa.
The parties held a detailed discussion of all aspects of their future partnership. “Relations between Belarus and Mongolia are characterized by a high level of engagement and fairly dynamic momentum,” Maksim Lysenko emphasized.
The minister expressed readiness to expand cooperation in the following areas: preservation of biological and landscape diversity, urban greening, industrial waste management, rational use and effective management of water and forest resources, and collaboration on multilateral platforms.
Ambassador Gunaajav Baigalmaa proposed stepping up collaboration in the areas of environmental protection, energy, and mining, strengthening and expanding the bilateral legal framework between the two countries. The billion-tree initiative holds particular significance for Mongolia in its relations with Belarus. To date, 163 million have already been planted.
The Ambassador noted that the current roadmap for 2024-2026 is expiring and proposed developing a new one. Maksim Lysenko instructed that a draft roadmap for cooperation with Mongolia in the environmental sector through 2029 be prepared within two weeks, after which it will be submitted to the Mongolian side for consideration.
