– City residents have no choice but to learn how to store apples and pears in their apartments. This is the easiest way, but in this case it is important to choose the right container and place it in a cool place, most often a glazed balcony is used for this. You can store fruit in a clean wooden box with holes, a basket or a plastic box with grooves, advises Valentina Poddubnaya, an experienced gardener from Chashnik. – The bottom and walls of the container are covered with parchment paper, pears and apples, having previously been grouped by type and variety, are placed with the stalk up or to the side so that the fruits do not touch each other. Then the fruit is covered with thin paper, shavings or straw and a second layer is placed on top. Another way you can try is to store the fruit in bags in the refrigerator. The apples are placed in a plastic bag, filled halfway, tied and an incision about 10 cm long or several round holes is made so that the fruits “breathe”. When humidity is high, condensation forms inside the bag. This liquid will nourish the apples and protect them from drying out.
