Geography

 The Tolochin region was founded on July 17, 1924. The total area of the region is 1498.56 square kilometers. The length of the borders is 305 kilometers. The region is located in the Orsha Upland in the South-East of the Vitebsk oblast. It borders on the Chashniki and Senno regions in the north, the Orsha region of the Vitebsk oblast in the east, the Shklov and Krugloe regions of the Mogilev oblast in the south and the Krupki region of the Minsk oblast in the west. 

In the region there is the watershed between the rivers of the Baltic and Black Seas – the West Dvina and the Dnepr. The rivers of Drut, Bobr, Usveika, Obolyanka and 11 small rivers more originate in the Tolochin region. There is Glubokoe Lake and 9 reservoirs in the region.

There are 3 local reserves in the Tolochin region: the landscape-hydrological reserve “Skriputevo”, the reserve “Medvezhii Luk” and the marsh-reserve “Slavnovskie Bolota”. 

The woodland accounts for 29% of the territory of the region. Minerals of the region feature peat, sand-gravel material and clay.

The Tolochin region includes 7 rural councils. The population of the region is 30.9 thousand people. There are 273 settlements in the region. The population of the region has been shrinking. In 2006, 174 people were born, 477 – died.
