There are 19 agricultural companies in the Tolochin region. They specialize in dairy and meat farming, flax growing.
The agricultural industry is a leader in the region by the number of the personnel and the product range. The agricultural sector of the region is represented by 11 agricultural production cooperatives, 2 unitary companies, 5 communal unitary agricultural companies, 6 farms.
The farmland in the region is 74.2 thousand hectares including 51.9 thousand hectares of arable land and 247 hectares of gardens.
Agricultural companies of the region specialize in dairy, meat, grain, potato and flax production. In 2006, the region produced 43.4 thousand tonnes of grain, 1.3 thousand tonnes of flax fiber, 6.5 thousand tonnes of meat, 32.2 thousand tonnes of milk.
As of January 1, 2007, the cattle stock of the region numbered 28.2 thousand head including:
- cows – 10.6 thousand head;
- pigs – 28 thousand head;
- horses – 535 head.
In 2006, the milk yield made up 3,264kg per cow, a daily increase in the weight of cattle – 439 grams, hogs – 460grams.
In 2006, the agricultural production increased by 11.5% as against 2005, including the production of plant growing products – 13.3%, cattle breeding products – 10.4%. The gross milk production made up 32.2 thousand tonnes. Sales of cattle in live weight amounted to 6.5 thousand tons, sales of milk 26 thousand tons. The production of milk per 100 hectares came to 450,3 centners. Sales of meat per 100 hectares of arable land made up 83 centners. A crop of calves made up 10.8 thousand head, piglets -47.4 thousand head. sales of highest standard milk is 22.5%, average fat content– 3,5%, marketable value is – 81%
In 2007, the grain productivity is expected to be 20.6 centners per hectare, the flax productivity – 8.3 centners per hectare, the yield of milk – 3.6 thousand kg per cow.
In line with the state village revival programme for 2005-2010, approved by Belarusian President’s decree #150 of March 25, 2005, 13 agro-towns are expected to be constructed in the Tolochin region in 2005-2010.
